A Name Rooted in Meaning
At STEPDEX® Academy, or 思德教育学院, every element of our identity is intentional. Our name draws from the timeless wisdom of Chinese characters: 「思」 (Sī) and 「德」 (Dé)—two symbols that together represent our mission to develop leaders of insight, virtue, and humanity.
「思」 (Si) – Reflective Thinking with Heart
「思」 combines two elements: 「田」 (field) and 「心」 (heart). It symbolizes the act of mindfully cultivating wisdom through experience and reflection.
At STEPDEX®, this character embodies the thoughtful integration of:
  • Purposeful reflection before action
  • Heart-centered decision-making that serves both people and purpose
  • Continuous learning grounded in the realities of daily work and leadership
The 「田」 field also serves as a powerful metaphor for our STEPDEX® Four Quadrants: Strategy, Technical, Empower, and People. Each quadrant represents a unique competency field—together, they form the fertile ground where leadership potential grows.
「德」 (De) – Virtue Embodied in Action
The character 「德」 is composed of three meaningful parts: 「彳」, 「直」, and 「心」.
「彳」 represents a path taken step by step, symbolizing the importance of steady progress and disciplined action in one’s journey. 「直」 stands for uprightness, reflecting the qualities of honesty, integrity, and a clear moral compass that guide a leader's decisions. At the core lies 「心」, the heart—signifying compassion, sincerity, and the emotional depth that humanizes leadership.
Together, these elements form the essence of 「德」: a virtue that blends action, integrity, and empathy into one seamless character—just as great leadership should.
In unison, 「德」 reflects the core of our leadership philosophy:
True leadership is not just about capability—but about character. We believe every leader should walk the path of righteousness, guided by empathy, courage, and humility. This is how we transform organizations and shape a better world.
「思德」 — Holistic Leadership with a Compassionate Heart
When 「思」 meets 「德」, it gives rise to a holistic kind of leadership—one rooted in both reflection and virtue. This union shapes individuals who lead not just with their minds, but also with their hearts.

Sunny Law, founder of HPI Group of Companies and STEPDEX® Academy, has over a decade of experience in HR strategy, leadership development, and adult learning. With roots in Industrial & Organizational Psychology and a heart for SMEs, he created STEPDEX® to make leadership training both structured and soul-driven. Sunny is a certified trainer, performance coach, and a lifelong learner dedicated to unlocking the potential of others.
